How to use

Enter your gross monthly salary, number of registered dependants, and employee type. The calculator deducts the employee's compulsory insurance contributions (8% social, 1.5% health, 1% unemployment), applies the personal deduction of 11,000,000₫ plus 4,400,000₫ per dependant, runs the progressive PIT brackets, and returns your net take-home pay.

Use it in salary negotiations to translate between gross and net instantly — a 2M₫ gross raise is worth much less in hand once you cross into a higher bracket. Note that statutory caps apply to insurance contributions at very high salaries, and regional minimum-wage floors apply at the low end; this calculator gives a standard estimate for typical private-sector salaries.

Salary after all deductions

Examples

Mid-level employee, 1 dependant

  • Gross Monthly Salary:20,000,000
  • Employee Type:0
  • Number of Dependants:1

Result

  • Net Take-Home Salary:17,775,000
  • Taxable Income:2,500,000
  • Health Insurance (1.5%):300,000
  • Social Insurance (8%):1,600,000
  • Unemployment Insurance (1%):200,000

After 2.1M₫ of insurance and deductions of 11M₫ + 4.4M₫, only 2.5M₫ is taxable — all in the 5% bracket, so PIT is just 125,000₫. Take-home is 17.78M₫, about 89% of gross. The dependant registration saves roughly 220,000₫ of tax every month.

Senior employee, no dependants

  • Gross Monthly Salary:35,000,000
  • Employee Type:0
  • Number of Dependants:0

Result

  • Net Take-Home Salary:28,910,000
  • Taxable Income:20,325,000
  • Health Insurance (1.5%):525,000
  • Social Insurance (8%):2,800,000
  • Unemployment Insurance (1%):350,000

At 35M₫ gross, taxable income of 20.3M₫ reaches the 20% bracket and PIT climbs to about 2.42M₫. Take-home is 28.9M₫ — 82.6% of gross, versus 89% in the previous example. This is why senior-level negotiations should always be done in net terms.

Industry Benchmarks

Metric Typical Range
Net pay typically runs 85–90% of gross below 25M₫/month, falling toward 75–80% at 60M₫+ as higher PIT brackets bite. —

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the personal allowance for PIT in Vietnam?

The personal deduction is 11,000,000₫ per month for the taxpayer, plus 4,400,000₫ per month for each registered dependant (children, supported parents). These are subtracted from income after insurance contributions, before the progressive tax brackets apply.

What are the employee social insurance rates in Vietnam?

Employees contribute 10.5% of salary: 8% social insurance, 1.5% health insurance, and 1% unemployment insurance. Employers pay an additional 17.5% on top. Contributions are capped for high earners — the salary base for social and health insurance is capped at 20 times the statutory base salary.

How do Vietnam's progressive PIT brackets work?

Monthly taxable income is taxed in slices: 5% up to 5M₫, 10% from 5–10M₫, 15% from 10–18M₫, 20% from 18–32M₫, 25% from 32–52M₫, 30% from 52–80M₫, and 35% above 80M₫. Only the income inside each slice is taxed at that slice's rate — moving up a bracket never reduces your net pay.

Should I negotiate salary in gross or net?

Always clarify which one an offer means. A net offer means the employer covers your PIT and insurance on top — worth roughly 15–25% more than the same number as gross at mid-level salaries. For a 20M₫ example, gross pay yields about 17.8M₫ net with one dependant.
